ACTIVITIES ACCOMPLISHED

• 5 July: Participated in international workshop with students from italy, Spain andGermany organized by KAAU (Knowledge Alliance Advanced Urbanism), and the Unige Department of Architecture and Design and Urbact Local Group for the urban transformation of the former military barracks Caserma Gavoglio, speaker at the conference round table;

• 7 July: met with prof/engineer Adriana Del Borghi, a representative for environmental sustainability for University of Genoa, elaborating a collaboration between FIU and the IEES (Intelligent Electrical Energy Systems) research group;

• 9 July: met with Renzo Piano Building Workshop's Giuseppe Semprini, responsible for the Genoa office's integration of BIM technology to discussion technology and design method;

• 16 July: joint presentation on "Sea Level Rise Adaptation and the Future of Coastal Cities" with Research Case Studies by Unige Prof. Renata Morbuducci (l), FIU Prof. Thomas Spiegelhalter, and Ph.D./Master students Feng Xu and Umberto Grosso (r) in Noli during the GREEN SURF FESTIVAL, July 16, 2017;

• 21 July: Unige Politecnico Ph.D/masters students Umberto Grosso and Feng Xu present their thesis on their parametric-algorithmic sustainability design research on adaptive sea level rise solutions,with research accomplished under the guidance of Spiegelhalter at the FIU Miami Beach Urban Studio in Miami from October 2016 to March 2017;

 

kaau international summer workshop: caserma gavoglio, July 3-8

This international workshop was organized by KAAU (Knowledge Alliance Advanced Urbanism),Unige Department of Architecture and Design and Urbact Local Group that promotes urban transformation to serve local needs, to generate innovative proposals for transforming the former military barracks Caserma Gavoglio in the Lagaccio valley, a steep and heavily built up area with little public space or services.

Approximately 100 students from Italy, Spain and Germany in teams of ten made innovative proposals using recycled and found materials. Wednesday July 5 was an all day conference and round table, including Thomas Speigelhalter. On Friday was the final presentation of proposals; Saturday July 8 the entire area was open to the public.

July 7: Spiegelhalter with prof/engineer Adriana Del Borghi, a representative for environmental sustainability for University of Genoa, elaborating a collaboration between FIU and the IEES (Intelligent Electrical Energy Systems) research group of Unige that have developed and are testing a real time control system of the resource and electric energy consumption of the entire university.

• Integrated with the department of Interior Architecture department;

• Cooperated with Professor Darci Pappano on lessons of Cruise ship interior arrangement;

• Gave class of Yacht Design to the CSSY (Cruise Ship Super Yachts) students;

• Co-supervised the weeklong collaborative design workshop between Unige and FIU students. The workshop's activites also included visiting the Miami Boat Show and a cruise ship in the harbor of Miami.
